Turnkey Irrigation Projects Pioneering automated irrigation project of hazelnut orchards
An 800-hectare hazelnut orchard project in Ukraine’s Odesa region, developed since 2015, implemented a surface drip irrigation system and large-scale automation to overcome water sourcing and distribution challenges—resulting in efficient water management, optimized soil moisture, and long-term yield stability.
Challenge
As the hazelnut orchard grew from 50 to nearly 800 hectares, the farm encountered increasing challenges in sourcing, storing, and delivering irrigation water. Water needed to be pumped from the Dniester River and transported over 10 kilometers to specially constructed reservoirs. Maintaining consistent moisture throughout a large and expanding area, while overseeing labor and operations, demanded a scalable and efficient irrigation system.
Resolution
A surface perennial drip irrigation system was deployed throughout the orchard, supported by soil moisture sensors to guide agronomic decisions. As the project scaled, automation was integrated across 500 hectares using RTUs and the Dream2 central controller, enabling remote zone management via mobile or desktop. All irrigation data is archived, providing full transparency and control—ensuring stable, high-quality hazelnut yields across a growing plantation.
