Turnkey Irrigation Projects Retrofit Success: Black Pepper Greenhouses Converted for Cannabis
This project involved converting an existing black pepper cultivation site into a highly controlled cannabis production facility in Thailand. The adaptation showcases Metzer’s capability to retrofit greenhouse infrastructure to fulfill the requirements of modern medical cannabis cultivation.
How We Made It Happen
Challenge
The main challenge was converting eight traditional greenhouses—originally designed for black pepper—into a state-of-the-art environment compliant with strict cannabis production regulations. This required integrating advanced irrigation and water treatment systems, climate control, and full-spectrum security measures within an already built structure.
Resolution
Metzer delivered a comprehensive irrigation solution utilizing precise drip irrigation with Gali PC pressure-compensated drippers, ensuring uniform distribution to all plants. The project included a reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment system, advanced air circulation and purification systems, and complete design and installation of security infrastructure—meeting the highest regulatory standards. The outcome is a productive and secure cannabis cultivation facility built on repurposed infrastructure with minimal disruption.
